I have been doing some research on journalism, specifically technology's impact on news media. This research is for a presentation that I have to give as a part of my degree program.
The most comprehensive source I have found so far is stateofthemedia.org. It started in 2004, and has put out a comprehensive report of the state of news media every year since then.
It is from this website that I have discovered a new word: "newshole."
Judging by the context, a newshole is the space of news broadcast airtime actually used to deliver the news (as opposed to advertising, chitchat, or other things). Newshole sounds like a word that David Letterman would have some real fun with.
